Gaining Clinical Experience

This course is designed to prepare high school senior students, who have identified nursing as a clear career goal, for a collegiate registered nursing program. Students will learn through classroom instruction, practice in a real world clinical skills lab and gain real time experiences about nursing through community health and acute care shadowing opportunities. Major units of study include Fundamentals of Nursing; Medical Math; Medical Language and also include certifications in CPR/AED; First Aid and OSHA10. The STA Professional Nursing Course will introduce students to the roles and functions of a future R.N. to include: the nursing process, nursing documentation, professional communication skills, medical ethics and NCLEX-RN style assessment questions. Students will learn and use APA style in the course. Dual college credit is available. 2nd semester includes a Shadowing experience OR a Paid Internship experience.

Note: Students provide their own transportation for clinical experiences.
